CASE STUDY:

AVKO features in a grand designs episode

ProGroup’s Simon Braid recently took on his biggest project to date which aired on Channel 4’s Grand Designs. Located in Market Deeping near Peterborough, ProGroup is a leading trade fabricator.

ProGroup provided 125 panes of glass with the PVC frames being painted in AVKOTE LE Anthracite Grey for the long-running famous Grand Designs show hosted by Kevin McCloud. The difficulty with this ambitious project came with the structure’s circular shape inspired by Celtic roundhouses, boasting a pyramid-shaped roof using 18 panes of glass for the roof alone that took an outstanding amount of precision to install.

And of course, we’re proud that AVKOTE LE was the perfect paint for the project boasting over 25 years on the market and years of research, development and testing in both internal and external conditions. We know how this paint performs under accelerated tests and the test of time so you can be sure to receive a high-quality product, every single time.

How do I use your paint for plastic and pvc products?

Our team of technical experts are always on hand to help with any queries whether that’s over the phone or via email. If you’re just starting out, you may find our tutorials helpful.

We are currently working on a video tutorial for this product, but in the meantime you can download a PDF guide to using AVKO’s paint for plastic. We will update this page with the tutorial once it is available.

Clear Coating:

how to extend the life of your product

Clear coating is very quick, as you can apply the clear coat wet on wet with AVKO paint. Only one light to medium coat is enough to give you all the necessary protection.

Our range of AVKO Clear Coat lacquers can improve the longevity of your work, especially in external conditions, giving you and your customers peace of mind. Clear coats can also be used for internal furniture to increase the longevity of the paint.

If you have more questions about this you can also visit our page dedicated to information about how to use our lacquers for Plastic.

Advice for substrates near the sea or in highly polluted areas

For substrates situated near the sea or in a heavily polluted area (e.g., city centres), we highly recommend using a clear coat, which will protect the paint from the influence of salt air or pollution. Without a clear coat, the paint could fade or chalk over time.

Advice for pastel-colour paint coatings

For pastel-coloured paint coatings that will be subject to excessive wear and tear, we recommend the clear coat to improve the paint’s resistance to markings and fading.

Advice for metallic and pearlescent coatings

For metallic and pearlescent coatings which are used externally, we recommend the clear coat for extra protection and to increase colour longevity. These coatings are more susceptible to weathering as they contain aluminium particles.

Important Advice

We have produced these helpful video animations with important advice about using our products. If you have any questions, you can contact us at [email protected].

Advice for stirring and shaking the paints

When paint is left to stand for a while for example during delivery or when it’s on a shelf, the paint mix can separate inside the tin. This uneven mix can result in differences in colour, problems with coverage or potential adhesion issues.

Before using any AVKOTE paint product, stir or shake the paint thoroughly to ensure an even mix from the very first pour to the very last drip. Watch our video tutorial for more information and advice.

Advice for using correct mixing ratios of paint:activator

Whilst all AVKO paints will arrive thinned and almost ready to spray, they will need to be mixed in with an activator before you go ahead with your job. This will ensure proper adhesion for years to come.

The mixing ratio of paint to activator (usually a hardener) will vary from product to product, so it’s important you check the product information label on the paint can or our technical data sheet.

Staying safe whilst using specialist paints

It is important to adhere to safety advice when using any specialist paints whether it’s for glass, plastic, wood, GRP or metal.

Protective clothing (PPE) such as a spray suit, gloves and an air-fed mask should be worn at all times when using AVKO products. We also offer advice on spray booth set-up on our website. Our sales team are also happy to help with any queries you have.

If spraying on-site, make sure that you are applying the product in a well-ventilated area as well as that you are wearing the appropriate PPE.

Each can of paint comes with a unique label which details specific safety information related to that product. All of our technical data sheets are available on our website as well as material safety data sheets, which can be requested from our sales team
